amongst the table centerpiece
sits an immaculately steamed
and mouthwatering beast
for a Thanksgiving feast
toasted rolls and butter
and then I eat another
also smothered in Smuckers
with my mother and brother
sister father and uncle
grandma, grandpa, and uncle
and all the other relatives
that I didn't list
as the buttons stretch
the family collects
in a central address
to impress and confess
though Jilly's out of sight
she occupies my mind
I won't undermine the time
my family set aside
how quickly I forgot
I'm thankful for a lot
how quickly I've forgot
I missed mom and dad a lot
